Paul M Collins

bio

Paul Collins is a Scenic and Lighting Designer based in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Paul is active in professional and academic theatres around the country. Recent professional lighting designs include West Side Story at Charleston Southern University; Hair, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and Fiddler on the Roof at the Barn Theatre in Augusta MI; Vania, Sonia, Masha and Spike at the Warehouse Theatre in Greenville SC, and Hamlet with the Annapolis Shakespeare Company. Scenic designs include Bad Seed at Iowa Summer Rep, and The Realistic Joneses at Pure Theatre in Charleston. In addition to Lighting and Scenery, Paul also designs projections and sound.

Paul is currently Assistant Professor for the Central Michigan University teaching courses in theatrical design and production.  Upcoming Designs at CMU include DoubtSpring Awakening, The Country Wife and Fool for Love.

Paul has previously been on the faculty at College of Charleston (SC), and Technical Director at Grand Valley State University (MI). 
 
Paul has often enjoyed collaborating on new works. Paul has worked alongside playwrights Jen Silverman and Arlene Hutton on new works. In addition he worked with Director/Choreographer Martha Clarke and Lighting Designer Christopher Akerlind in developing In the Night, as part of the Iowa Partnership for the Arts. In the fall of 2017, Paul will collaborate with Dr. Annette Thornton on The Other Project at CMU. 
  
Paul received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, a Master of Science in Communications at Grand Valley State University, and a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Iowa.
